User Interface Design
Car Dashboard
GOAL: To design a visually appealing and user-friendly dashboard for a Taiwan-based car equipment supplier specializing in electric vehicles. Our focus is on ensuring a superior user experience that allows for easy readability of crucial information, such as speed and battery level, without any distractions from complicated instrumentation.
Design
Design:
I designed a modern and stylish dashboard interface for an electric vehicle equipment supplier, prioritizing a chic and minimalistic aesthetic. The design revolves around a dark color palette that stays true to the brand's identity. The main objective is to create an easy-to-navigate design, ensuring that drivers can quickly obtain essential information, such as speed and battery levels, with minimum distraction from complex instrumentation. Additionally, the interface is optimized for viewing during low-light conditions, making it a convenient companion for nighttime driving.
Speedometer:
The speedometer is a critical component of a car's dashboard design, allowing drivers to monitor their current speed in a clear and straightforward manner. The gauge features both a numerical display and a traditional needle, providing drivers with multiple ways to easily read their current speed in km/h.
To indicate high speeds, the gauge's brightness increases in several segments, rather than as a continuous change, with the number of segments increasing as the speedometer reading rises. To avoid negative associations with danger, the gauge uses a combination of blue, which is a brand color, and red, which is a universal warning color, to create a distinct "purple" hue on the gauge to indicate high-speed ranges. This approach maintains a cohesive look with the rest of the dashboard while ensuring that drivers can quickly and accurately read their speed, even at high velocities.
Battery & Navigation:
On the left side of the dashboard, there is a battery charge indicator that displays the remaining charge percentage and a visual bar for easy reference. This allows drivers to easily determine the amount of charge left in the vehicle. Additionally, the dashboard displays the current speed limit for the road and provides simple arrow indicators to show the next steps for the driver, rather than a full navigation map. This is because more detailed navigation features are available on the center console, allowing the dashboard to remain uncluttered with excess information.
360-degree view:
On the right side of the dashboard, there is a live 360-degree view of the vehicle's exterior condition, which displays any open doors and the tire pressure levels while driving. This feature enables the driver to easily monitor the vehicle's status without the need for physical inspection, thus providing greater peace of mind during the driving experience. The dashboard also indicates the current gear position, offering a convenient reference for the driver.
